Cultural Channel

Grey Highlands Culture & Community

In 2014, the Grey Highlands Public Library and the Grey Highlands Museum received funding through the Cultural Development Fund that provided opportunities to increase and enhance the sustainability of the local cultural sector.  These opportunities included policy and development training for local boards / committees, the growth of community collaborations and public round-tables to invite ideas and involvement.

The Grey Highlands Cultural Channel is an exciting initiative that brings community and culture together! The Channel shines a cultural spotlight on Grey Highlands and its surrounding areas – author readings, art displays, musical performances, sports activities and more! Ongoing workshops are provided upon demand to help community members develop and Submit Content for the channel.

In 2015 the partners, along with Eastlink (formerly Markdale Communications), announced the launch of a new community cultural channel. This project was made possible with grant funding provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and through partnerships with the local museum, municipality, cable television provider, and other community organizations.

In 2017, we also presented at the Ontario Library Association‘s 2017 Super Conference to raise awareness of the cultural channel on Wednesday, February 1st. From concept to launch, this presentation explored the many aspects of this innovative project. Topics included: planning, funding, and starting a library/cultural/community channel; developing collaborative partnerships with local community partners; development of video and poster TV and YouTube content; equipment, tools, and training techniques; challenges and strategies for community engagement; and how libraries have an opportunity to play a leadership role in helping to promote culture in the community.

The Grey Highlands Cultural Channel (GHCC) provides an additional access point for the promotion of local cultural and heritage information, and was made possible through grant funding provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario. The GHCC was created by the Grey Highlands Public Library and the South Grey Museum – in partnership with the Municipality of Grey Highlands and Markdale Communications.
