Volunteer

We have on-going volunteer opportunities at the Grey Highlands Public Library. We encourage and welcome applications from adults and students, including students looking to fulfill their volunteer hour requirements. Specific volunteer positions will be posted here as they arise. If you would like to submit an application to volunteer for a specific role, or to be kept on file for future positions, please complete the form below. Volunteer applications will be kept for one year.

All volunteers require a criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening.

Friends of the Library Board Member

The Friends of the Library (FOL) is a dedicated volunteer group that supports the library through strategic planning and fundraising activities. They collaborate with the Library CEO to develop and update policies related to fundraising efforts. FOL Board Members, alongside Library Staff and Library Board Members, actively promote the library and its services, while also organizing and participating in fundraising and community events.

Friends of the Library

The Friends are a volunteer organization that support the programs, goals, and services of the Library through fundraising and volunteering. Currently, there are three chapters:

Friends of the Walter Harris Memorial Branch

Every year Friends of the WHMB put on two large book sales. Their fundraising initiatives have helped purchase computers, furniture for the Board Room, March Break & summer programs, children’s books & more! They meet the last Wed of the month.

Friends of the Flesherton Branch

The Friends of Flesherton are outside every Saturday from Victoria Day weekend until Thanksgiving weekend Saturday selling books. They also help to host the annual Spring Cafe and Harvest Cafe. Their fundraising initiatives have helped purchase computers, children’s furniture, books, March Break & summer programs, children’s books and more! They meet the first Wednesday of the month.

Friends of the Kimberley Branch

The Friends of Kimberley have organized bottle drives, yard sales, book sales and other great fundraising initiatives. They have helped to purchase local history books, programs, furniture and more! The Library is greatly appreciative of all the work and time spent dedicated to fundraising, advocacy and support. They always welcome new members. Become A Board Member

Make A Difference In Your Community!

Are you a passionate individual who cares about library services in your community? Are you:

  • interested in making a positive difference in your community
  • enthusiastic about working with other board members, the library CEO, and library staff
  • able to attend monthly board meetings and committee meetings
  • familiar with or interested in learning about library services
  • imaginative and creative
  • willing to learn

Do you have additional skills in finance or law, or previous board experience?

Library Board members must be:

  • at least 18 years old
  • a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
  • a resident of Grey Highlands
  • able to provide a clear police check
  • not employed by Municipality of Grey Highlands or the Grey Highlands Public Library Board
