Friends of the Library

Help Make a Difference at the Library

The Friends are a volunteer organization that support the programs, goals, and services of the Library through fundraising and volunteering. Currently, there are three chapters:

Friends of the Markdale Branch

We support the Library by promoting its benefits, fostering an understanding of its community role, encouraging volunteer participation in activities promoting the Library’s mission, and engaging in local fundraising to assist with Library objectives. Each spring and fall we host a large book sale where the cost of the books is simply a donation.

Get involved!

  • Donate BOOKS. Give us your undamaged books that are in good condition. NO textbooks, CDs, magazines, outdated or musty books please!
  • Donate financially to the Friends of the Walter Harris Memorial Library, or make a memorial donation. Cheques or cash only, accepted anytime by Markdale Branch staff. Tax receipts available for cash and cheque donations over $20.
  • Volunteer at our book sales or help sort through book donations.
  • Accumulate high school volunteer hours, as students are needed when setting up and taking down book sales.
  • Become a member of the Friends. We meet regularly September through June.

Email [email protected] if interested in joining Friends, volunteering, have questions, or are looking for student volunteer hours.
